MAPLANGA 's ZIMBABWE TOP 10
1. Negotiate your way through Beit Bridge border post with a sense of humour - serious adrenalin sport this one, be patient, Zimbabwe awaits you, try to beat the record from crossing over from SA to Zim, 23mins.
2. Go on safari in the magnificent Hwange National Park. Amuse yourself by the name the "old Rhodies" used to call the park (Wankie!) Unspoilt wilderness awaits you, no fences. This is the real thing.
3. So you thought that Cape Town was the gay capital of Africa? Take in The Motopas National Park and visit the grave of Cecil John Rhodes, "camp" explorer or should that be, explorer who camped?
4. Get your hooks into a Lake Kariba Tiger fish. The lake is man-made and is home to a favourite Zimbo pastime - fishing from a luxurious houseboat. Houseboats range from basic to full-on including jacuzzi's and swimming cages hanging in the lake, just in-case a croc tries to bite your bum!
5. Raft the Zambezi River from the Zim side, originally the Zimbo's were first to raft the river after independence in 1980. The Zambezi River can be rafted for a one day, two day or five day expedition that takes adventure junkies from just below the falls to near the mouth of Lake Kariba, awesome stuff.
6. Go shopping in Harare's Doon Estates craft market, similar to Jozi's Rosebank Rooftop Market but cheaper by far. Creativity has always been a Zimbawean strength and Doon Estates has the best of the best on offer. Bargain with your strong Rand/Dollar/Pound Euro and walk away with pressies for all your mates.
7. Go on a Zambezi River booze cruise accompanied by Zimbabwe's number one tourist attraction, Zambezi Lager! Great game viewing, stunning sunsets, this is Zimbabwe at it's finest. There are a number of cruise options available from luxury to the good old floating piss-up down the river!
8. Throw yourself over the Vic Falls bridge, go on, do that 111m bungee, you know you always wanted to but never got up the nerve. Not the highest anymore but definitely the original with the best backdrop, Victoria Falls.
9. Dive Chinoyi Caves, this is the best fresh water diving in Southern Africa, 40m visibility, fascinating underwater features, constant water temperature @ 22c year round, caters for all levels of divers, this is a must.
10. Discover the remote and unspoilt Gonerazhou National Park, big game country, a favourite dumping ground for opposition politicians who just happened to disagree with the current government. (oops maybe this one is not very PC!) The few lodges and operators ensure that visitors to the park enjoy game viewing the old way, no radio's directing you to the latest kill, no cell phones, just pure Zimbabwe.
