The Lower Zambezi National Park is the smallest of Zambia's national Parks. Situated along the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, the park is a haven for the wildlife tourist as well as the fishing enthusiast. Ana Tree Lodge offers classic comfort in large en suite tents within this remote, scenic environment. Here guests can experience the natural splendours of the African wilderness in comfort and solitude.
FISHING AT ANA TREE LODGE
Ana Tree Lodge is best known for the exceptional fishing experience it offers. The Zambezi River and its channels carry an excellent variety of fish including the much acclaimed Tiger Fish. The Tiger, which is related to the piranha, is rated as the toughest pound-for-pound fresh water fish in the world and is a regular catch in the channels just in front of the lodge.
Other fish caught on a regular basis at Ana Tree Lodge are Vundu, Bream and Chesa. The Vundu (giant catfish) will test your stamina with weights that exceed 50kg, and bream will make for a tasty snack back at the camp. Fishing can be done from the river bank, in boats or from the edge of one of the many sandbanks that can be found where the channels merge.
Keen fishermen should bring their own rods and tackle as the ones provided at the Lodge are more suitable for beginners.
The months of June to November, when the flood water recede, are the most popluar times for fishing. The camp is seasonal as the Lower Zambezi National Park closes between the end of November and the end of April each year as the high flood waters of the Zambezi make the roads impassable.
