Quirimba Islands

There are about 27 small islands off Mozambique’s northern border which make up the Quirimba Islands including Ibo, Matemo and Medjumbe.

Matemo Island is 8 kms in length and 3 kms wide. Home to the luxury Rani Matemo Lodge,  the main attraction are the magnificent beaches and of course the diving. The coral reefs are bordered to the east by the Mozambican coastline and to the west by the Mozambique Channel which holds an astonishing diversity of species.

Medjumbe is the northern most island of the Quirimbas that can be dived and also the smallest island diveable island in Southern Africa. The most memorable features of scuba diving at Medjumbe are the vertical drop offs, overhangs and ledges which are home a seemingly never ending array of marine species including masses of goldies, barracuda and puffer fish.
