Bazaruto Island, the largest island of the Bazaruto Archipelago, lies off the coast of Mozambique, 30 kms from the town of Vilanculos.
The east coast of the island faces onto the deep waters of the Mozambique Channel, which is rich in marine life and attracts big game fishermen looking to catch a pelagic fish and scuba divers wanting to dive the protected coral reefs.
There are currently two lodges on Bazaruto Island, Indigo Bay and Pestana Bazaruto Island Lodge situated at extreme opposite ends of the island. An island holiday or a honeymoon would fulfil any dreamers expectation of a tropical paradise.
Getting to Bazaruto island: fly Federal Air or LAM from Johannesburg or Maputo to Vilanculos then take a short hop flight from Vilanculos to Bazaruto on CFA. Clearing customs and collecting your luggage is a lesson in overcoming chaos but worth the effort. |
