CHOBE NATIONAL PARK | ||
|
Chobe National Park is Botswana's second largest national park and stretches from the north eastern Chobe gateway at Kasane to the Linyanti marshes in the north and the Savuti in the west.
Chobe is probably best known for its massive elephant population, which is probably the single largest continuing elephant population in the world, with numbers topping over 120 000. The Chobe elephants congregate in the Kasane and Linyanti areas in the dry months and then disperse when the summer rains come. Some herds remain around the Chobe Rivers in the rainy months making a safari to Chobe very rewarding regardless of the season.
Chobe National Park encompasses the Linyanti as well as Savute , but its the area close to the small town of Kasane that is most recognised as 'Chobe'. Being only an hours drive from Victoria Falls it's a very popular safari stop after a holiday in Victoria Falls and there are many accommodation choices to suit all budgets. Chobe Accommodation
Nearly all Chobe accommodation options are outside the national park, with guests travelling into the park for game drives. If you want to stay inside the park and avoid the crowds, there is the luxury Chobe Game Lodge and a number of small mobile camps within Chobe national park wilderness areas that are worth considering. The ever popular Chobe Safari Lodge offers excellent accommodation good for a good price and is ideal for families on safari. Elephant Valley Lodge is a fantastic mid range accommodation choice in Chobe. It lies in a private concession, next to a busy waterhole and we have personally witnessed lion kill buffalo at the waterhole. |
